TurboTax Tips – How to Complete Schedule C, Items A-H

This article is a walk through the procedure to fill a critical part of Annex C with TurboTax Home and Business. At the top of the list C of eight questions that are marked with the letters AH. Here’s what it takes to complete this section.
A. Principal business or profession, including the product or service. Insert a short description of your company or self-employment activity. It does not have long or fancy. Typical examples include: consultants, dealers, brokers, etc.
B. Enter main code. The IRS has a chart with numerous business category and a corresponding 6-digit code. If Schedule C done before and know what your code, just input the number again. But if this is your first time or you’re not sure what your code QuickZoom click on the button to the right and you’ll be taken to a page that lists all the different types of companies in alphabetical order. Scroll through the list until you find the right one, then click the box to the left of the code and the numeric code will get automatically transferred into the appropriate box on Schedule C
C. Company Name. If you have a name other than your own company name, enter here. Some sole proprietors have used a “DBA” Doing Business As, or name, signs and advertising. Others do not. So, if you do not have a DBA, not sweat. You are not required, a Schedule C for reporting purposes, and if that is the case, leave it blank.
D. Employer Identification Number (EIN). Again, you need one or you can not have one. If you have employees, you should have one. But many self-employed person to fly solo, so it is quite common that a sole proprietor, not to an ON.
E. Business street. If you check the box before the box that says “Enable this option if you should use your address as your business address, then your home address, are already in this area. But if you have your own business address that is different than your address, enter here.
F. Accounting Method. There are three possibilities here: Cash, Accrual, and others. Most sole proprietors use the Cash method, which means that you an income in the year you receive it and log in, they were paid. The accrual method means that you made an income in the payroll it, regardless of when they receive it, and report were covered in them for you, regardless of when you pay. If you are not sure whether you have cash or accrual, you should help on this topic. It is also a method such as the hybrid method, which is known to a combination of cash and accrual, and if that is what method you use, check the other box and type in “hybrid”.
G. Did you materially participate in the operation of this business during the year? It is likely that your answer is yes, why else would you be filing Schedule C?
H. If you started or acquired this business during the year, take a look here. In other words, you select this check box if this is the first year for this business. Otherwise, leave the field empty.
